The House · Canale Monterano

Built in 1690. Restored, not replaced.

A noble country house on the edge of the village, raised at the end of the Seicento and passed down ever since. The restoration added heating, sound, light and glass — and stopped there.

History

What the Seicento built is still here.

The staircase climbs on bricks laid three hundred years ago. The antique wine press still stands where the harvest once arrived. Ceilings keep their trusses, walls their stone.

Look for the marks time left: the herringbone bricks, the beam that still smells of wax, the press that crushed the village harvest.

The kitchen

One kitchen inside, one under the sky.

Fully equipped for a party of sixteen: gas hob, double fridge, espresso machine and Nespresso. Outside, the barbecue and the courtyard table carry dinner into the night.
